The accelerated expansion of renewable energy is creating challenges for German distribution system operators: grid connection requests exceed available grid capacity. Flexible Connection Agreements (FCAs) offer a pragmatic solution by allowing new generation assets, storage systems, and consumers to connect under defined conditions, without requiring immediate, costly, and time-intensive grid expansion measures.
Until now, however, a transparent and data-driven methodology for calculating FCA limits has been missing. Discussions often remained at a regulatory level, without providing grid operators with a practical, operational tool.
