  • Inercomp: From Consulting Practice to Scalable SaaS
Back to overview

Over the past years, Inercomp has steadily evolved from a classical consulting provider into an integrated energy-services company. A clear vision has guided this step by step: real-world challenges from daily client work are systematically captured, standardised and continuously refined methodologically. What proves itself in operational use is then implemented by our in-house software team – resulting in independent, scalable SaaS products.

What makes Inercomp distinctive is the combination of three teams: consulting, quantitative energy experts and software development. Customers benefit twice: powerful systems make the work of consultants and portfolio managers more consistent and efficient. At the same time, day-to-day requirements flow directly back into product development – ensuring the software reflects real customer processes. Inercomp has deliberately taken on the challenge of turning expert systems into self-explanatory SaaS solutions.

The practical scope behind these solutions is as diverse as liberalised energy markets themselves: different currencies and energy units, regulatory frameworks, contract terms and market mechanics. In addition, customers have individual requirements – from strategy and risk parameters to role and organisation models, interfaces, reporting standards and concrete enhancement requests. Solutions must support both operational and strategic reporting – while maintaining consistent standards despite heterogeneous starting points.

A current example of iterative development is the beta version of battery storage valuation: each customer use case has advanced the model further – up to a valuation algorithm for European multi-market optimisation across day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets, including local ancillary costs. Another use case was added at the beginning of the year: in Austria, the algorithm is intended to cover the special case of batteries being supplied directly with local renewable energy (EKBS). This is the point: practical cases define the standards – because Inercomp works closely alongside its customers.

The interplay of the three teams is the key: consulting collects and prioritises use cases; quantitative experts standardise methodologies and valuation logic; and software development translates these standards into systems that make day-to-day energy work measurably simpler and more consistent. This is how integrated SaaS products emerge: a “single source of truth” ensures consistent data, APIs connect market data and customer systems seamlessly, and the SaaS approach delivers continuous improvements – without complex rollouts. This makes decisions faster and more stable, even when regulation or market conditions change at short notice.

The eTools family is one result of this development: eTools Portfolios combines monitoring, valuation and reporting for portfolio management; eTools Renewables supports long-term renewables valuation and PPA comparisons. eTools Load Profiles is used for load profile valuation and increasingly for hedging and load simulation. eTools Markets consolidates a wide range of energy market data from across the globe.

This is how practical requirements become a standardised, technologically robust system – and how complexity turns back into operational control. For customers, this means less redundancy, consistent valuation and faster reporting, so portfolio management remains manageable in daily operations. For experts, it means more time for decisions and for customers – rather than dealing with system breaks.
