Kiwigrid’s intelligent control function for heat pumps enables heat pumps to be specifically integrated into energy management strategies—for example, for tariff optimization, utilization of surplus electricity, or compliance with grid requirements.
Dresden, January 22, 2026 – Kiwigrid, the IoT company for energy management and energy optimization, is expanding its platform with a smart control function for heat pumps. The expansion enables energy suppliers, smart home providers, and partner platforms to integrate heat pumps into energy management strategies in a targeted manner—for example, to optimize tariffs, utilize surplus electricity, or comply with grid requirements.
Intelligent control instead of purely automatic operation
Heat pumps generally operate autonomously: if heat is required in a building, the heat pump automatically ensures that the target temperatures in the heating circuit and hot water system are reached. With the new control function, external energy management systems can also intervene in a targeted manner, for example when particularly favorable electricity tariffs are available or a photovoltaic system generates high surpluses.
When connected to the Kiwigrid platform, it is possible to see whether a heat pump can be controlled. Kiwigrid’s new heat pump control system supports both SG-Ready heat pumps and EEBUS-compatible devices; the portfolio is being continuously expanded. If a heat pump can be controlled, Kiwigrid’s partners can influence the system via defined operating modes:
The control commands can be set in real time or according to a schedule. Optimization takes place entirely in the background; end customers do not need to intervene.
Intelligent heat pump control as the basis for new dynamic tariffs
Kiwigrid is already working with customers who are integrating the new feature into their product offerings at short notice in order to offer their users even more precise and automated optimization strategies. The new heat pump control system intelligently takes into account tariff fluctuations, PV generation, and grid signals without the need for active intervention by end customers. This increases comfort, reduces costs, and boosts the overall efficiency of energy flows in private households.
Contribution to efficiency, grid stability, and cost advantages
The boost and dimming functions allow energy flows to be even better adapted to tariffs, self-consumption strategies, and grid requirements. This creates efficiency gains, enables new tariffs, and supports grid operators in stabilizing power grids during periods of high volatility. Targeted load shifting—for example, by shifting grid consumption by up to five hours to more cost-effective and grid-friendly time slots—reduces energy costs for end customers and tariff providers alike, while reducing peak loads on the grid. Given the growing number of heat pumps that can be controlled via Kiwigrid, this opens up considerable flexibility potential, which will translate into measurable energy savings and lower power peaks in the future.
“With the expanded heat pump control system, we are strengthening our position as the leading platform for intelligent energy management,” says Jan Lehmann, Vice President of Product Management at Kiwigrid. “We are offering our partners additional flexibility, reducing operating costs, and at the same time contributing to a secure and sustainable energy future.”
