Back to overview

TRICERA energy, the general contractor (EPC) and system integrator for large-scale battery storage systems, and Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm (SWU), the municipal utility and mobility service provider for the cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm, have signed a contract to build a modern and powerful large-scale battery storage facility.

TRICERA energy’s project development team is responsible for the initial steps of preparing and submitting the building application for the battery storage system. In addition, the company is acting as EPC for the planning, manufacture, delivery, construction, and commissioning of the turnkey, functional large-scale battery storage facility. The facility, with a usable capacity of 21 MWh and an output of 10 MW, will be used for primary and secondary control power and will also participate in energy trading.

“The battery storage system gives us additional flexibility for our energy portfolio. We can store renewable energy in a targeted manner and use it as needed. This is particularly true when it comes to energy trading. In this way, we are strengthening the economic use of photovoltaic electricity and making an important contribution to a more sustainable energy supply for citizens,” says Klaus Eder, Managing Director of SWU.

Tim Müller, Managing Director of TRICERA energy, adds: “We are very pleased to be able to implement this innovative project together with SWU. The battery storage project with Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm shows once again how well Stadtwerke and TRICERA fit together. Municipal utilities play an important role in the success of the energy transition. It is therefore all the more gratifying to see how actively the issue is being pursued there.”

The project in Ulm fits seamlessly into TRICERA energy’s existing projects with the municipal utility association Trianel and the municipal utilities in Schneeberg and Karlsruhe.
