Waltershausen, August 7, 2025 – After five months of successful continuous operation, Tauber Energy has given a clearly positive interim assessment of its battery storage facility in Waltershausen: The large-scale storage project, with a capacity of 10 megawatts and 22 megawatt hours, can supply approximately 25,000 households with electricity for two hours and has proven itself to be a cutting-edge technological solution and the centerpiece of the company’s growth strategy.
Proof of concept for growth strategy – storage technology and energy management demonstrate future viability
During a technical tour on August 6, the management of Tauber Energy presented the site’s successes to date to around 20 invited guests from politics, business, and the press. “The first five months have shown that our storage technology is robust, relevant to the market and the grid, and thus represents the future viability of our entire project portfolio,” summarized Arne Weinig, Managing Director of Tauber Energy GmbH.
Waltershausen as a successful model for the next generation of projects
The location was chosen due to its ideal grid capacity, regional support, and favorable geographical location. A highly intelligent energy management system and lithium-ion technology in a modular container design are used. The successful operation in Waltershausen is providing momentum for the ambitious pipeline: Tauber Energy is already implementing more than 150 megawatts of additional storage capacity, and further locations are in the preliminary planning stage.
Strong partnerships and regional roots
The project was financed by Deutsche Kreditbank AG as genuine project financing. Various engineering and product partners were involved in the implementation. Partners such as RENEWEX and the grid operator TEN deserve special mention here. In his welcoming address, Mayor Leon Graupner emphasized the model character of the project for the region.
